The Australasian Blistering Diseases Foundation is a not-for-profit organization.

Aims -

  • fundraising for research into life-threatening blistering diseases, supporting patients and their families by providing information and a network of supporters with similar conditions, medical professionals who can help;

Education -

  • basic facts about the diseases
  • information about treatment
  • patient-doctor meetings
  • biannual newsletters

Support -

  • advice on living with the disease
  • local support groups
  • email discussion group

Research -

  • encouraging research into the cause, diagnosis and treatment of blistering diseases
  • research updates
  • participation in clinical trials

Advocacy -

  • increasing public awareness
  • education for health care professionals
  • gaining government support for expensive drugs that are not covered for "orphan" diseases in this category.

There is currently a case control study investigating the potential triggers of pemphigus and other autoimmune blistering diseases underway at St George Hospital.
